A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theatre
Yesterday afternoon we had the pleasure of seeing Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Now in it’s 38th year it is easy to see why this production is a Chicago tradition!
As we headed to the theatre, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into; I hate to admit the only version of the story I had seen was A Muppet Christmas Carol. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of humor and fun the actors put into their characters. The entire production from sets, lighting, acting, and music was fantastic and wildly entertaining for the entire family.
The theatre was filled with people of all ages. I would leave it up to parental discretion as to how young is to young to attend. The play does include some erie parts and loud noises. There were quite a few youngsters at yesterdays matinée, the youngest I would guess to be about 3, and I heard lots of laughter and absolutely no tears.
All of the acting was professional and well executed however, Larry Yando, the actor who played Ebenezer Scrooge stole the show. He was absolutely hilarious when he needed to be and had the audience laughing out loud on more than one occasion. There were also quite a few adorable, and talented kiddos in the cast that were entertaining to watch.
A Christmas Carol will be at the Goodman now through December 27th. For more information about the show and tickets visit http://www.goodmantheatre.org/ACC! We highly recommend you see it! It’s a fantastic way to get into the Christmas spirit.
