About

Welcome to Kidgrade, your digital family magazine and resource center. Think of Kidgrade as Modern Family meets Parent magazine. We will cover the usual topics that families are concerned about: food/nutrition, health, education, finance, travel and entertainment. But we will also discuss those things that may have been seen as politically incorrect a decade ago. We will be engaging you with current event topics from around the country and around the world. Why, because today’s families face different challenges and the world our children are growing up is continually changing.

As I said we will be discussing diverse topics, that maybe controversial, we will always be inviting your input because ultimately this is your magazine and this is a platform to voice your opinions and thoughts.

But more than anything else we intend to have fun along the way, every week there will be a giveaway or contest, so look out for these. We invite you to share your fun ideas, your oopsies, your ah ha moments, your bloopers, your suggestions to other parents/families and feel free to rate places/things on the ratings section. But most importantly share anything you feel will bring a smile to others – because we all need to smile more these days.

On that note once gain welcome to the new Kidgrade…

Segun Ishmael, MD, MBA

Editor-in-Chief (Kidgrade dad)

Segun has always been passionate about children and family. Being the first born child, who is eight years older than his next sibling; so he is used to caring for kids from an early age. His love of children was his drive to become a doctor (pediatrician) but decided along the way that he really liked caring for patients from conception through the many stages of life. He subsequently became a family physician but he presently is an ER doctor. He has along the way also earned a fellowship in academic medicine and an MBA.

But he feels his greatest and most fulfilling role is being a dad to three wonderful kiddos, Alexis (his fashion diva), Zoe (his star diva) and Myles (the prince). The kids besides keeping this single dad on his toes also keep his playlist up-to-date.

In his spare time he enjoys to dabble in the kitchen, travel, music and concerts, live theater, dance classes, and cherishes family time (with a good game of hungry hungry hippos). Be on the lookout for Segun’s pieces and questions about parenting, fatherhood and current events. You’ll also catch him around town trying to discover what kid-friendly activities and businesses are out there.

Elizabeth started working with the Ishmael family as a babysitter on summers home from college. With a BA in Dance, a Minor in Psychology, and a Yoga certification she realized kids were yet another passion. Working with the Kidgrade kiddos led her on an unexpected path into social networking, blogging, and learning and loving everything kid-friendly. Elizabeth loves kids and is looking forward to having her own someday with hubby TJ! Until then, she’s on the hunt for all things kid/family related and sharing her journey with you!

In her spare time she still loves taking dance, teaching dance, and cherishes family time. Be on the lookout for Elizabeth around town, she loves to stop in and chat with local kid-friendly businesses.
