BUSY Moms Can Go Back To School Thanks To Technology

I often toy with the idea of going back to school. I usually stop thinking about it because I just know that I would not have the time. I was very close to finishing, but then life got busy. And now, it has been SO long, I don’t think that I could find the time to attend class, be a mom, work, and continue doing all of the other things that I need to do in life. Technology has evolved since I was in school (no I am not that old!).  But, the fact of the matter is that there are now a lot more options to using technology to learn and grow than there were in the past.  I did start looking into going back to school, and what I found was that there are a few online colleges that just might be able to fill the void for a busy mom like me.

I attended a University of Phoenix graduation last summer in St. Louis with a friend.  I got to talk to a couple of the students and I learned that they truly enjoyed their schooling. They enjoyed the flexibility of being able to attend classes and complete work on their own schedules. I believe they are only required to visit the campus a couple of times a year. Other than that, everything is done online.

The University of Phoenix has taken it a step further with the new University of Phoenix Mobile App. The app allows students to participate in a class whenever it is convenient for them wherever they may be. This sounds perfect for a busy mom, yes?  Students can check on:

  • Discussion questions
  • Grades
  • Assignments
  • And more…

The app even includes PUSH to alert students of important announcements.

As I think about that I realize once again just how far technology has come. I can remember visiting the computer lab to type and print out a paper, and having to walk it over and hand it in to my professor. I had to sit in lectures where sometimes the classes were so large that it was hard to see and hear. Then there were the lab sessions with the TAs that sometimes barely spoke English! Now, you can do all of that from home, or anywhere else.

I must admit, it does seriously make me think that I could do it. I mean, finding the time to attend class would be the hardest part.  But imagine if you can attend class at home in your jammies late at night while the kids are in bed. I mean, that is when a lot of moms get things done anyway right? J
