Located only a few hours from Chicago, Shipshewana, IN is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend or day trip. Escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to explore the shops, restaurants, flea market, and more in the hub of Mennonite and Amish communities.
My favorite part of the quaint little town was exploring all of the shops. If you’re into antiquing or combing the racks of adorable boutiques you will have plenty to do for hours. Tons of stores line the streets each offering something unique.
If you’re into a good deal you won’t want to miss the flea market. It has hundreds of vendors selling everything from fruit and veggies to handcrafted furniture. It can get pretty toasty if you go on a hot summer afternoon so be sure to stay hydrated. We cooled down with an amazing smoothie from one of the local vendors. It also wouldn’t hurt to wear closed toe shoes as the ground around the market is gravel and can be quite annoying if it gets in your shoes.
If you’re traveling with little ones they would love taking a horse and buggy tour of the town and exploring the toy shops scatted throughout the stores.
If you are planning on staying the night in Shipshewana there are a handful of bed and breakfasts located right in town as well as lots of restaurants to choose from.
